Many good and positive things have come to fruition since the opening of the Julia Centre in Brazil in 2009.

Due to the generosity of various important donors, the Julia Thomson Sport and Cultural Centre was inaugurated in November 2010. Located next door to the original Centre, this lovely facility has been a wonderful addition to the primary project and a tremendous boost to the entire community of Canavieiras, Bahia.

The Sports Centre, which is used for a number of different sports (football, tennis, basketball and volleyball, etc.) is in constant use by aspiring athletes, young and old.

The Cultural Centre has become a place where theatre, the arts and especially the national Brazilian dance form “Capoeira”, are being taught and encouraged to flourish.

Thanks to the Sports/Cultural Centre the older children ( aged 10 and over) who would normally be leaving day care at the “Garden of Angels”, have the opportunity to continue their relationships with many of the people who have become such important figures in their lives; teachers, helpers and community workers.

With your assistance we hope to be able to continue to help this community, and the young people in particular, to strive for a better life outside the world of drugs and poverty.

Thank you for any financial help however big or small that you can give us. Julia’s memory is a continual source of inspiration to us and our family. We know how much she loved and valued her friends and how much they meant to her.
