Julia Thomson Memorial Fund

The Julia Centre

Thanks to the generosity of so many friends and family the “Julia Centre” was opened on 19 February 2009 in Canavieiras, Bahia, Brazil. The Centre, in memory of Julia, is part of an existing “crèche”, The Garden of the Angels, which looks after very poor children from the ages of 2 to 8 years old.

The new “Centro Julia” provides much needed care for 6 to 8 year olds who have a place to come to after school, which in Brazil often finishes at lunch time. The provision of the centre allows these children’s parents to work and to be self-sufficient, in the knowledge that their children are safe and well looked after. We are talking of very poor children whose parents need and want to work in order to provide for their families.

The centre is a very “hands on” project with which Bill and Cecilia are very closely involved, and every penny goes to the care, feeding and helping (both physically and educationally) of these beautiful children.

Our ultimate goal is to raise enough money to continue supporting these children for years to come, so that through Julia’s Fund, the work can become self-supporting.

Financially we still have a long way to go to achieve that goal, so please, if you would like to contribute even a small amount, be assured that every penny goes directly to help these children.

Thank you for any continuing support that you can give us.
